Abzeco has achieved many good outcomes for the environment. Our creative approach to solving problems has seen many areas improved by our actions flowing from our recommendations.
- A shire-wide assessment of weeds in the Alpine Shire has seen many weed species mapped and several new species identified in the Shire. Control actions against these new species have seen some potentially serious infestations controlled whilst resourcing requirements are still small and eradication is achievable. The 'next blackberry' has been nipped in the bud!
- An offset proposed for vegetation clearances required for an urban industrial development has allowed the development to proceed whilst resulting in the restoration of several hectares of treed but degraded urban bushland to a high standard. The location of the offset site along a creekline will substantially contribute to the extent and quality of local habitat.
- The use of urban roof-runoff water to occasionally inundate a stand of stressed River Red-Gums in Melbourne's south-east will substantially improve the health and long-term viability of trees, whilst enhancing their ecological function and allowing an indigenous understorey of Plains Grassy Wetland and Plains Grassy Woodland to be restored beneath them.
- The reconsutruction of a more natural drainage line profile to a channelised stream and the revegetation of highly degraded and weed invaded bed and banks will see food resources and habitat niches for aquatic and terrestrial fauna restored.
